Having visited De Ateliers as a guest tutor numerous times in previous years, Charlie Prodger joined the team of permanent tutors in 2022. One of the most innovative video artists today, she also works with sculpture, photography, and writing. Through the lens of queer subjectivity she looks at intertwined relations between the body, landscape, language, technology and time.
She won the 2018 Turner Prize and represented Scotland at the 2019 Venice Biennale. In 2017 she received the Paul Hamlyn Award. Solo exhibitions in recent years include Kunstmuseum Winterthur (2021), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam, 2021), Hollybush Gardens (London, 2018), Bergen Kunsthall (2017), Sculpture Center (New York, 2017), Kunstverein Düsseldorf (2016), Spike Island (Bristol, 2015) and Temple Bar Gallery (Dublin, 2015). She participated in many group exhibitions worldwide, including ‘British Art Show 8’ (2016), and performances in MOMA PS1 (New York), Artists Space (New York), Café Oto (London, collaboration with Mason Leaver-Yap) and Tramway (Glasgow). Prodger’s work has been presented at numerous international film festivals including London, New York, Toronto, Oberhausen, Seoul, Bucharest, and Vancouver. Her writing has been published in Frieze, F.R. DAVID (De Appel), 2HB (CCA), Victor & Hester, The Happy Hypocrite (Bookworks), Intertitles: An Anthology at the Intersection of Writing and Visual Art (Prototype Publishing) and What Artists Wear by Charlie Porter (Penguin). The artist is represented by Hollybush Gardens (London) and Kendall Koppe (Glasgow).
