Oscar Santillán (b.1980, Ecuador), lives in Equador and Amsterdam

Cybernetician Oscar Santillán is the founder of :studio ANTIMUNDO. His artistic practice is embedded in a network of collaborations with astronomers, biologists, engineers and other scientists. In his exhibitions, Santillán explores the edges of the known world, identifying lost episodes of science and generating new narratives exceding ruling conventions. His focus is on knowledge production repressed during colonial times, Andean and Amazonian terraforming, and non-Western sci-fi. Having obtained an MFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University (US), Santillán was an artist-in-residence at Skowhegan (US), Jan van Eyck (NL), Ratti Foundation (IT), Delfina Foundation (UK), and Leiden Astronomical Observatory (NL). Recent solo exhibitions of his work took place at Château La Borie (Solignac, 2021), PARQUE (Mexico City, 2019), MUAC (Mexico City, 2017) and Witte de With (Rotterdam, 2016). The artist is represented by Copperfield Gallery (London), 80m2 Livia Benavides (Lima), Galleria Tiziana di Caro (Napels) and LLANO (Mexico City).
