Nora Kapfer (b.1984, München, Germany), lives in Berlin

Behind the familiar imagery of the works by German artist Nora Kapfer hides an experimental approach to painting and picture making. In her work, radical questions that modern painting has been asking itself since its inception, revive. Using tar-like bitumen and paper cut outs as material, Kapfers haunting paintings put the autonomy and the symbolic value of the image to the test. Recently, her works were exhibited at Kunsthalle Friart (Fribourg, 2022),  C L E A R I N G (Brussels, 2022), Bundeskunsthalle Bonn (2022), Édouard Montassut (Paris, 2021), The Wig (Berlin, 2021), Galerie Lars Friedrich (Berlin, 2020), and Etablissement d’en face (Brussels, 2018). The artist is represented by Édouard Montassut (Paris) and Galerie Lars Friedrich (Berlin).
