During Spring Performance Festival 2016, De Ateliers proudly presents:
Raed Yassin
‘Volumes’
‘Volumes’ is Raed Yassin’s new solo double-bass musical piece. With this 35 minute work, the artist attempts to create a soundscape akin to the process of sculpting in sound, playing with texture, size, volume, dynamics, space and surfaces.
Raed Yassin (1979, Beirut, Lebanon), former participant of De Ateliers, has released eleven music albums, founded the production company Annihaya and is a founding member of Beirut art collective Atfal Ahdath. Sampling sounds and images from Arab records, Egyptian films and cable television, Yassin creates fictional stories that are both personal and political. Ruminating on the aspirations of a region stretching from Morocco to the Gulf, Yassin explores in his videos, photos and sculptures the collective memory of the Arab world through disposable culture. He is one of the recipients of the 2012 Abraaj Capital Art Prize. Raed Yassin had solo exhibitions at Delfina (London, 2014), Museo di Rivoli (Torino), Mori Art Museum (Tokyo, 2013), Beirut Art Center (2013), New Museum (New York, 2012) and the Museum of Photography Thessaloniki (2011). He participated in Manifesta (2010) and Sharjah Biennial (2011). Raed Yassin is represented by Kalfayan Gallery (Athens).
