With sadness board, staff and artists of De Ateliers say farewell to Stanley Brouwn (1935, Paramaribo – 2017, Amsterdam). Brouwn played a pivotal role in the development of performance art and conceptual art in Europe during the 1960s and 1970s. Much of his work consists of printed matter, drawings and installations and is included in collections from the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), the Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven), Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller (Otterlo) as well as the Museum of Modern Art (New York)) and Tate (London). Brouwn participated in Documenta 5 (1972), 6 (1977), 7 (1982) and 11 (2002) in Kassel. He is the winner of David Roell Prijs (1980), Sandberg Prijs (1987) and the Oeuvreprijs Fonds BKVB (2000). He was Professor at the Kunstakademie Hamburg and an inspiring tutor at De Ateliers from 1978 to 1996.
