Markus Karstiess (b.1971, Haan, Germany), lives in Düsseldorf

German sculptor Markus Karstiess was a Meisterschüler of Jannis Kounellis at the Düsseldorf art academy. In his practice, he focusses on manual labour and ancient crafts, using a variety of sculptural techniques including ceramics. Recently, he had solo shows in Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (2014), Mediterranean Kunsthalle (Sardinia), Kunstverein Krefeld (2012) and Museum Baden (Solingen, 2009). The artist is represented by Galerie Van Horn (Düsseldorf) and Ancient & Modern (London).
