Artist Talk Melanie Bonajo
Melanie Bonajo (1978, Heerlen), lives in Amsterdam
In her videos, performances and installations, Melanie Bonajo examines the erosion of intimacy and isolation in an increasingly sterile, technological world. Presenting the human body as a political battlefield, she explores in her work feelings of alienation, spiritual emptiness and our changing attitude towards nature. Melanie Bonajo had solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Lingen (2019), Bonnefantenmuseum (Maastricht, 2018), Frankfurter Kunstverein (2017) and FOAM (Amsterdam, 2016). She participated in the Guangzhou Triennial (2018), Manifesta 12 (2018), Riga Biennial (2018) and numerous festivals such as Pinkpop, Lowlands, International Film Festival Rotterdam, International Documentary Festival Amsterdam and the Berlinale. She is co-founder of artists collective Genital International, addressing issues of feminism, participation and equality. The artist is represented by Galerie Akinci (Amsterdam).
