Artist Talk Matthew Lutz-Kinoy
Matthew Lutz-Kinoy (b.1984, Brooklyn, New York, USA), lives in Paris
Working across various mediums including performance, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, and painting, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy embraces the spirit of collaboration to expand his knowledge and his skills. Where his ceramics are influenced by working with artists in Europe and Brazil, his large-scale paintings unearth his fascination with the refined, sophisticated, and carnal painting style of the 18th century. Influenced by queer histories and his background in theatre and choreography, his live work explores the interplay between private and social spheres and his own position. Recent solo shows include Art Basel Parcours (2022), Villa Era (Vigliano Biellese, 2021), Museum Frieder Burda at Salon Berlin (Berlin, 2021), Taka Ishii Gallery (Tokyo, 2021), Vleeshal (Middelburg, 2018), Centre d’Édition Contemporaine (Geneva, 2018), and Le Consortium (Dijon, 2018). His works were included in group shows such as ‘The Age of Ceramic’ (Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, 2021), Geneva Sculpture Biennial (2020), Sharjah Biennial 14 (2019) and the Berliner Festspiele (2018). The artist is represented by Mendes Wood DM (São Paulo, New York, Brussels), Mennour (Paris) and Fitzpatrick Gallery (Paris).
