Esiri Erheriene-Essi (1982, London, UK), lives in Amsterdam

Esiri Erheriene-Essi’s figurative paintings are based on images, objects, and documents which reflect both individual and shared memories and histories that we all unconsciously carry within us and are present in all that we do. By creating new scenarios, she continuously questions the order, the discrepancies and the omissions in the historical narrative. Esiri Erheriene-Essi, former participant of De Ateliers, is winner of the Royal Award of Painting 2009 (Royal Palace, Amsterdam). She was shortlisted for De Volkskant Beeldende Kunst Prijs 2001 (Stedelijk Museum Schiedam) and the Prix de Rome 2019 (Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam). Soloshows were held at Galerie Ron Mandos (Amsterdam, 2018, 2015, 2011, 2009), Museum of Modern Art (Arnhem, 2014) and Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dalsåsen (Norway, 2013). The artist is represented by Galerie Ron Mandos (Amsterdam).
