Artist Talk Dan Lie
Dan Lie (b. 1988), lives in Berlin
The practice of Dan Lie celebrates natural cycles of transformation and the many exchanges that structure ecosystems. A fundamental aspect of their work is the de-centering of human agency and subjectivity. Working in collaboration with other-than-human ( bacteria, fungi, plants, animals, minerals and the memory of deceased ones), Lie creates site- and time-specific works. Dan Lie is trans-nonbinary. They had solo exhibitions at the Pinacoteca Sao Paulo ( São Paulo, 2024), Hamburger Bahnhoff (Berlin, 2024), Art Sonje (Seoul, 2024), Zwingli-Kirche (Berlin, 2023), Kunstverein Braunschweig (2023), New Museum (New York, 2022), Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin, 2021), Casa do Povo (São Paulo, 2019), Jupiter Art Land (Edinburgh, 2019), Wiener Festwochen (Vienna, 2017), Change-Change (Budapest, 2016) and Kampnagel (Hamburg, 2016). They were represented at numerous groups shows worldwide, including 35th Biennial de São Paulo (2023), Singapore Biennale (2022) and 58th Carnegie International (Pittsburgh, 2021). They are represented by Galerie Barbara Wien (Berlin).
