Artist Talk Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca
Bárbara Wagner (Brasilia, 1980) & Benjamin de Burca (Munich, 1975), collaborate since 2011, live in Recife, Brasil
Brasilian Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca from Germany collaborate since 2011. In their short films and film installations, the artists duo explores the significance of racial identity, sexual orientation, religion and economy in Brasilian popular culture of dance, music and nightlife. The films, partly scripted, partly documentary, are as hybrid as the communities they portray. Works of Wagner & De Burca have been exhibited worldwide on prominent festivals and exhibitions, including the Bienal di São Paulo (2016), Skulptur Projekte Münster (2017), Museum of Contemporary Art (Detroit, 2017), Berlinale (2018) and will be exhibited from 16 March onwards at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Wagner & De Burca represent Brasil on the forthcoming Venice Biennale from May 11 to November 24, 2019. This event is organised in collaboration with Stedelijk Museum.
