Artist Talk Bani Abidi
Bani Abidi (1971, Karachi, Pakistan), lives in Berlin and Karachi
Pakistani artist Bani Abidi is best known for her satirical engagement with contemporary politics and culture in South Asia, especially the hostile relations between India and Pakistan, infested with nationalism and post-colonialism. In her films, installations and photoworks Abidi zooms in on the lives of individuals affected by these disputes, as well as on specific Pakistani minority groups. Bani Abidi has shown her works in exhibitions and filmfestivals worldwide. She participated in Lahore Biennial (2018), 8th Berlin Biennial (2014), 9th Shanghai Biennale (2012) and Documenta 13 (Kassel, 2012). Recent soloshows were held at Gropius Bau (Berlin, 2019), Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (Berlin, 2017), Kunsthaus Hamburg (2016), Gandhara Art Space (Karachi, 2016), Dallas Contemporary (Dallas, 2015), Kunstverein Arnsberg (2014), Baltic Center for Contemporary Art (Newcastle, 2011), Project 88 (Mumbai, 2010), V.M Art Gallery (Karachi, 2010), Green Cardamom (London, 2010). The artist is represented by Experimenter Gallery (Kolkota).
