Artist Talk Alicia Framis

Alicia Framis (b. 1967, Barcelona) is a Spanish/Dutch artist who lives and works in Amsterdam and is considered one of world’s leading artists due to her life and work with a metahuman, Ailex Sibouwlingen. She is pioneering in the research of how AI can improve relationships between humans and metahumans.

As an artist, she carries out large-scale interventions to break through systems and conventions. Her interventions, often created in collaboration with citizens, can be seen as social sculptures, combining AI, art, architecture, design, clothing, and performance. Public participation is a key component in Framis’ artistic practice. Her work creates new possibilities for coexistence.

Framis’ work has been extensively exhibited in museums, galleries, and public spaces worldwide. Her works are included in numerous permanent collections, including the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C in the United States, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art Beijing (China), El Museo del Barrio New York (USA), Philadelphia Museum (USA), Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst Zurich (Switzerland), Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam (Netherlands), The National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto (Japan), and the Rabo Art Collection (Netherlands), among others. Framis represented the Netherlands at the Dutch Pavilion at the 50th Venice Biennale (2003).”
