Artist Talk Zeinab Saleh
Zeinab Saleh (b.1996, Kenya), lives in London
In her paintings and drawings, British artist Zeinab Saleh explores the themes of personal memory, tenderness, and intimacy with a great economy of means, inviting calm and intense contemplation. Saleh’s distinct technique sees the use of acrylic, charcoal and chalk swept across the canvas, revealing depths of texture, shade, and color. Forms are often repeated within the frame: the curl of a ribbon, henna on hands, the lattice of a railing. Narratives are alluded to, but never fully disclosed. Recent solo exhibitions include Champ Lacombe (Biarritz, 2022-2023), Château Shatto (Los Angeles, 2022), Camden Art Centre (London, 2021), and Mother’s Tankstation (London, 2020). Her videos were screened at, amongst other institutes, Whitechapel Gallery (London, 2022) and Het Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam, 2019). The artist is represented by Château Shatto (Los Angeles).
